I understand of course that these reviews were written in 1994, and at the time I think KKC's understanding of the series far surpassed my own, but nevertheless I think it best that some of the inaccuracies at least be noted as such, lest they perpetuate some very old myths... Fire in the Sky--"Rumble moves his mouth but says nothing when Skywarp asks if the 'big bad ice' is too much for him, which suggests that maybe there's some dialogue here in the Japanese version ofthis episode." (I used to think that the U.S. cartoon was dubbed from a Japanese version, but actually it's the other way around.) S.O.S. Dinobots--"Interesting to compare this with the comic book version of the Dinobot origins, that the Ark based their designs on 4 million BC Earthen creatures (Never mind the time screw up...)" (There is no chronological discrepancy here, since the Ark found the dinosaurs in the Savage Land, which protected the dinosaurs from extinction.) A Plague of Insecticons--"The fact that Megatron identifies the bug hive as a Con escape modulesuggests that the Insecticons were part of the original contingent thatattacked the Ark four-million years ago..." (The only problem here is that the Insecticons said that they'd never met Megatron before this episode.) "Moving pictures: Witness ye the origin of the subspace weapons storage theory." (Actually, we see the subspace phenomenon as early as "More Than Meets the Eye" part 2 when Ravage's hip-mounted guns appear in a flash of pink energy.) Enter the Nightbird--"KKC, notes that Sideswipe doesn't have the same voice as Leonardo, although both characters seem to be acted by Michael Bell." (Actually, TMNT's Leonardo was voiced by Cam Clarke.) Changing Gears--"Ratchet does his trademark karate-kick to down SkyWarp (he does it again in other episodes too)" (Actually, this is the only episode featuring Ratchet the Ninja.) "KKC, In jacksonville Bonkers comes on before TF and I noticed that Corey Burton, the guy who does Shockwave's voice, is responsible for Bonker's voice." (Bonkers, from the show of the same name, was voiced by Jim Cummings.) A Prime Problem--"It seems that the G2 animation team added some special effects to heighten the effect of the glowing, explosive crystals deep in the ravine." (Not actually. The G2 team changed a bunch of sound effects, but only altered one visual scene, and they stopped after the first 13 episodes.) The Insecticon Syndrome--Hey, I had no idea the title was based on The China Syndrome. I always thought they were ripping off the name of an old Star Trek episode... :) The God Gambit--"Astrotrain is a little inappropriately cast as the leader in this episode. If you don't like your characters shuffled around like that, you can either assume that Starscream got temporarily demoted or that Astrotrain was pounding home the point that nobody'd be able to get home without him." (The Sci-Fi Channel cut out both of Starscream's protests that Astrotrain's taking charge. Thrust finally warns Starscream to follow Astrotrain because "Astrotrain'll vaporize us if we don't.") The Autobot Run--"Does anyone like this new narrator Hal Raye? 'Going ballistic to destroy the Autobots and conquer mankind...'" (The G2 narrator wasn't Hal Rayle. Apparently, it was Garry Chalk.) Child's Play--"KKC, am I infallible, or do none of you feel like examining theseepisodes in as great detail as I do?" (All I have to say here is... I really wish I'd been on ATT back in 1994...) Auto-Bop--"The plot: Raoul from 'Make Tracks' and the Bop-crew (Potblack and Rocksteady)" (It's Pop-Lock, actually.) The Key to Vector Sigma part 1--"Also, the scene where Prime and company run into an explosion in the Cybertron underground is cut. However, an expository scene afterwards DESCRIBING the cut scene is not!" (In fact, whatever explosion Prime is referring to is missing from the unabridged version, too.) The Key to Vector Sigma part 2--"Interesting to note that Peter Cullen does Superion's voice in 'War Dawn.' Oh yeah, Cullen is responsible for Vector Sigma's voice too." (Superion was voiced by Ed Gilbert, actually, and Corey Burton was Vector Sigma.) War Dawn--"Oh, as a side note, you get to hear Thundercracker's voice unprocessed when they discover the carcass of the Guardian robot" (They didn't just forget the flanging... it's also the wrong voice actor.) The Revenge of Bruticus--"Also, Megatron's evil cackle (tm) was cut off at the end, suggesting that maybe the G2 team has cut other episodes? Maybe." (Nope, Megatron's laugh wasn't edited, though the cyber-net space cube may have overlapped the last second or two of the episode.) Five Faces of Darkness part 1--Arcee is pink, but she's strong and apparently nobody among the Autobots is a better shot, if we're to believe her modest claims. Why didn't they make her a Targetmaster rather than a Headmaster? (Damn. That's a good idea!) "Onslaught is talking with the wrong voice; he's supposed to sound like aBritish army officer, and instead he sounds like a sideshow barker, eventhough it's the same actor doing his voice." (Actually, I think Terry McGovern, the voice of Wildrider, was substituting since S. Marc Jordan wasn't available.) Five Faces of Darkness part 3--"Oh, and Marissa Fairborne is a Sunbowin-joke. She's got Lady Jaye's voice and Flint's last name." (Lady Jaye was voiced by Mary McDonald-Lewis, not Susan Blu.) Webworld--"Listen closely to the Torkulon apes' voices. One of them is Michael Bell, and I'm very sure another happens to be Roger C. Carmel. Who is that third guy, the one with the same voice as Lord Zarak from 'Rebirth'?" (Actually, the therapists were voiced by Paul Eiding [Perceptor] and Stan Jones [Scourge/Zarak]). The Big Broadcast of 2006--Quotables:"'I'll take American History for five-hundred, Alex.' 'With Ketchup!'" (This was in the comic book adaptation, but not the episode proper.) The Face of the Nijika--"Check out the voices on the Quintessons... One of them is Rege Cordin [Cordic, actually], the same guy who did the Quint judge voice in the movie and through most of the series. However, the whiny Quint is being done by John Moschita, and the gruff one by Roger C. Carmel, unless I'm mistaken. Anybody care to have a listen and corroborate?" (I'm honestly not sure about the whiny Quintesson, but I agree about the other two.) Dark Awakening--"The Quints are a littlemore emotional than they usually are; in FFOD they discuss chuckling overkilling the Autobots before they laugh about it. Here they laughmaniacally with no motion made on the floor first." (That's because the line, "Shall we have an anticipatory snicker of triumph?" was cut by Sci-Fi.) The Rebirth part 1--"Apeface, Snapdragon, and Mindwipe all have Russian accents, for some strange reason..." (Actually, Snapdragon never speaks.) Thank you for humoring me, Steve-o. I'll let you know when my syndication edits page is completed, too. :) Zob [ Part 2, Text/HTML 131 lines. ] [ Unable to print this part. ]
